Warning: Beware of Man’s Traditions About Christ

You ever notice how the apostles of Christ never warned the early Christians about the dangers of being deceived by the gods of the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Indians, Persians, et al. They weren’t concerned about Sol Invictus, the worship of the Sun god, nor the worship of the Roman Emperor, nor any of the invading mystery cult gods of the East.

They warned Christians about organized churches and synagogues who professed to know God even while they were being infected by the false teachings found in the worship of those very false gods.

Paul makes this clear: “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness” (II Cor 11: 13-14).

Much to be gleaned here. First, there are false apostles, individuals who claim to be sent by Jesus Christ (Yahshua) with His message. Their stock in trade, however is deceit. How do they deceive would be followers of Christ? They “transform themselves into preachers, teachers, and priests of the God of the Bible.

“Transforming themselves” comes from the Greek words meta schema, which means “to change fashion.” Someone’s schema is “the habitus, as comprising everything in a person which strikes the senses, the figure, bearing, discourse, actions, manner of life” [1]. In other words, when you look at one of these “false apostles” of Christ, you see and hear someone who you would expect to be a man or woman of God. Their appearance, the way they carry themselves, their words about Christ, their actions in the community, and their “manner of life” testify as to their self-declaration that they are indeed a person of God.

The old way of checking out somebody–if they walk like a duck, and talk like a duck, and act like a duck, they must be a duck–does not work in this case. In fact, this is part of man’s wisdom that must be thrown away in order to go on to higher growth of discernment in God.

So Just Who Are These False Preachers, Teachers, and Priests?

Who are they? Just look around. Churches on many corners teach the “traditions of men.” Their leaders do not dig deep as Christ admonished us. They are content to poll parrot what they heard in seminary, joyfully passing on poisoned pablum to the lambs instead of the true vision.

And it just wasn’t a lone apostle Paul who warned us of these. The apostle Peter, who backs up Paul, warns of them, also (II Pet. 3: 15-16). After lining out the steps on the road to spiritual maturity and son ship, he warns us of them. “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies…And many will follow their destructive ways…” (2: 1-3  Read all of II Peter and Jude for the full picture).

In lieu of the many deceptions put forth by imposters–however sincere they may sound and appear–Paul warns us to not be spoiled through man’s philosophy and “vain deceit.” Young Christians can be deceived by man’s traditions “after the elements of this world” system. Being deceived comes from believing corrupt man’s spin on the Christian life. This comes from pagan traditions soldered onto Christ’s gospel (Col. 2: 8).

One need only thoroughly study out the major holidays of Easter, Halloween, and Christmas in order to see how man’s traditions have dominated “Christian” things the masses hold dear. It is astounding how deceived the oceans of people are, never questioning the source of their traditions. Sometimes I want to cry out, my arms stretched wide, my heart saying, Why do you persist in following pagan rites and traditions super-imposed upon Christian sounding observances? Even the History Channel has broadcast documentaries exposing the error of our holidays! And yet we slosh on and on, mired in the same false mudslides of the fetid river of lies. When will we ever learn as a nation, as a people?

But I know that the remnant of God’s people are learning. They know and discern the deceitful doctrines, and when they do, they turn away from the intoxicating fumes of those falsehoods about God.  Kenneth Wayne Hancock [to be continued]

  1. Amen Sir,

I love studying the depths of Scripture (all of it, not just the parts I like).

I am in no way attempting to be a Jew
But I observe the Sabbath to honor YHWH’s code written since Creation that will last forever.

I am disliked even in my own house because of this, and it is seen as a horrible waste of a day, that I spend that day studying, reading, worshipping, honoring and trying to understand why we are all so different.

I know I sin, we all sin, but sin an eternal deception are like owing for something we broke, or paying the penalty stealing souls from FATHER GOD himself.

I also feel some of us are actually tortured (in a way) to try and make us give up what we believe. Not complaining but my life seems often very hard compared to those who dont care anything about what I believe in… It’s just a simple observation.

Yet how are people to be forgiven who lead people away from THE WAY as taught by Y’SHUA?

Mans gospel of Jesus Christ and Y’SHUA’s gospel are very differnt.

Y’SHUA is our teacher… It’s not just a story of him being born from a virgin, doing miracles, framed and murdererd by the very people he came to save, and rising from the dead. There is much more …. Mans gospel of Jesus Christ doesn’t start to compare to Y’SHUA HA MASHIACS version of the Gospel of The Kingdomof Heaven.

Our teacher is our SAVOIR, above that HE is our RETURNING KING! so if we know not THE KINGS TEACHINGS… Then we know not THE KING!

There aren’t many roads to the Kingdom of Heaven. There is ONE that I know of, and its a narrow path that isn’t always easy to navigate. It’s not crowded and some times even lonely.

Maybe my point is… Even to try and live right by the code set by YHWH…those among you, even closest to you will despise it, and despise you for it, because THEIR TRADITIONS are more important than what YHWH set fourth for an eternity.

I used to try and explain it but it always turns into a situation where someone claims, “thas not what I was taught!” Or “so, everyone around you is false and you are somehow perfect.”

They care nothing for the facts, instead they turn those facts on me to make their falsehood seen more righteous than anything I can show them. The levels of deception are so ingrained so near perfect it makes me sick.

To explain this we have to understand we are competing with a devil who was once one of the most powerful of the Angels in Heaven, on top of that he has a 6500 year head start on us… Of which he has been building his kingdom right here on earth to not only deceive all of mankind (even the elect if that were possible) BUT to finish what he proclaimed… Satan stated he would exault himself above YHWH… It does seen he is doing quite well in this aspect also … But everyone involved including satan LOSES! Why can’t people grasp any of it?

The deceptions aren’t out in the world… They are ingrained in the very thing we claim to believe in…

Satan stole the churches pulled the names of YHWH and Y’SHUA from scripture and taught men how to use Scripture to worship GOD ….

God is anything or any object that a person worships and we twist scripture in countless divisional churches to make for our selves the God we choose. This is not THE WAY of YHWH.

This is not The house of YHWH, nor THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. There is no division, no man made doctrines, no false teachings, no variances…. And no one changes a code set since CREATION that continues for an EYERNITY. Where is this church? I will pack my stuff and move to where it is!

I used to get really upset… Now I just stay as politely quiet as possible. I simply don’t know what else to do.

When we willingly and spitefully sin against the code of YHWH (thas just my coinage for his Laws, commands, guidances, statutes, and rules) In my mind it is as if we spit in the face of YHWH. That is differnt than just a sin of the flesh. It’s eternally serious and I can’t turn from what I believe because what I believe NO MAN put in me…it’s just there… Is it not in all of us?

When a person hates the Code of YHWH, they hate the governing codes of this world and of The coming Kingdom of Heaven. This is a sin that might be past a sin and just plain hate of THE TRUE GOVERNANCE of mankind, which would also be to hate YHWH our CREATOR without ever actually saying those unthinabke words.

It’s a sad state of affairs and it hurts me that I don’t seem to have the words or the knowledge to use the right words to help people understand something so simple.

Thank you Sir for your work and your inspiration. Be safe and be blessed.

    • Thank you, Shay, for your comment. I am glad that the teachings He has given me to give to you all is a blessing to you. It is all worth it. Stay the course, faithful to the end, and upon His return you will be given the greatest reward of all: when He says, Well done, faithful servant. Enter into the joy of they Lord. May He continue to bless you. kwh

Dr. James Moffatt, a Scottish biblical scholar, translates Ephesians 4:14 as:
“…instead of remaining immature, blown from our course and swayed by every passing wind of doctrine, by the adroitness of men who are dexterous in devising error;…”

Let’s observe two words Dr. Moffatt used in his translation:

“Adroitness”, according to Merriam-Webster, is “having or showing skill, cleverness, or resourcefulness in handling situations.” (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/adroit)

“Dexterous,” taken from the same source, “implies expertness with consequent facility and quickness in manipulation.”(https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dexterous)

Dexterous comes from the Latin word “dexter”, meaning “on the right side.”
We have many examples throughout Scripture of the spiritual meaning of the “right” as opposed to the “left”. The etymology of the word “left” even has it deriving from the Latin word for “sinister.” (For more, see http://madeworthy.com/the-left-and-right-in-scripture/)

So Dr. Moffatt reckons this clever, skillful, and resourceful deceit coming from men who are “dexterous” in devising error. Their devices, being quick and manipulating, appear to come from the “right.” This is how their clever manipulation works. It only “appears” their doctrine comes from the “right,” not the obvious “left.” Therein lies the deceit.

When would one least expect or even realize the methods or schemes of Satan? When it’s subtle enough to sneak in unaware and has only the appearance of “light.” We are told in 2 Corinthians 11:

    2 Cor 11:13-15
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

    •“transformed” = (μετασχηματίζω)
This word not only implies “change in fashion or appearance, but more directly “disguised”.

“Disguised,” according to the New Century Dictionary(1927), is “to change the guise or appearance of so as to conceal identity or to mislead.” It also means to “misrepresent, exhibit in a FALSE LIGHT“, and “to intoxicate.”

Satan’s real subtlety soaks within our Christian churches, circles, and teachings. As the supposed leaders of the Christian faith lack “maturity”, they themselves are not prepared to guard those new in the faith. The commentary of Matthew Henry acknowledges:
“When the ‘pastors and teachers’ are themselves ‘children,’ the Church has most to fear.”

    Charles Spurgeon warns us:
“Beware! Error often rides to its deadly work on the back of truth!”

However, the Biblical scholar E.W. Bullinger sums it up best with this quote:

“The history of Genesis 3 is intended to teach us the fact that Satan’s sphere of activities is in the religious sphere, and not the spheres of crime or immorality; that his battlefield is not the sins arising from human depravity, but the unbelief of the human heart. We are not to look for Satan’s activities to-day in the newspaper press, or the police courts; but in the pulpit, and in professors’ chairs. Wherever the Word of God is called in question, there we see the trail of “that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan”
~EW Bullinger, The Companion Bible Appendix

Many only follow man’s teachings, never verifying what they teach is Truth, so long as their “credentials” are verified, such as “pastor,” bishop,” or dare we say, “Pope.” They feel if their leaders have position, power, and credentials then surely they are sent by God with Truth. This is why it is of the utmost importance to KNOW our Bibles and pray for guidance. We need to be prepared to diligently discern what we are taught in order to recognize error, not primarily outside but inside, where we least expect to be influenced: our churches, close circles, political affiliations, and even patriotic movements.

Following this, we can cease to be carried about like “surging waves” and begin to be at rest in the comfort and calmness of His Word with maturity.
